Get in the Kitchen

Yesterday when the girls woke up from their naps, I decided to make cookies. Iris (the 4 year old that I babysit in the summertime) walked into the kitchen and watched me measure the flour and pronounced, "I've never seen anyone make cookies before."
WHAT????
What a long way we've come from the days of Mrs. Cleaver. I was blown away! Doesn't everyone know that every kids love language is a beater covered in gooey goodness, that is, cookie dough?

Of course if you know me at all, you know that I give love by baking. My loved ones usually get a batch of their favorite cookie for their birthday, Christmas, Mother's day, Father's day, etc. For my dad it's Chocolate Almond Biscotti, and I'm a little late with those. For my mom it's Millionaires, and I'm really late with those. They are very messy and time consuming. (Not that you're not worth it, Mom.) Shannon likes Ranger Joe's and Chocolate Crackles. Ginger isn't altogether picky. And Don is just happy to have something fresh from the oven.

Now, baking isn't everyone's forte. I get that. But even my sister, whose kids think she doesn't know how to bake a cake, has made cookies for her kids before. Several times. So, if you haven't had a chance to really impress your kiddos lately, take a few minutes today and make some cookies. You'll be their hero!
And while you're at it, let them help while wearing their new aprons that I know you have whipped up this last week ;)

It's never too late for Millionaires! They are always received just the right size, just the right shape, just the right amount, just the right texture, and just the right time. You should be pleased to know I promised Don a cherry pie this weekend! Shhhh....don't tell your dad!

I'm not picky. You've never paid me such a high compliment. I will remember it always. :D

Jamie, I helped a little girl make brownies for her dad. She kept waiting on me to get in the car, she thought brownies came from the store. Wish I could afford to spend all day every day in my kitchen!

What is a Ranger Joe?
