Green Thumb

I LOVE SPRING! I love to watch the flowers bloom. The daffodils, tulips, irises. The red buds, peach and pear trees. I look forward to spring all year. I am in awe of all the rebirth after a long winter of hibernation. All the colors and shapes and sizes. I like to get out in the flower beds and pull up unwanted trees, weeds and ivies. I love to walk around the nurseries and look for different plants to try. I even love to plant vegetables and watch them grow and produce food for my family. What an amazing creation plants are!

Right now at my house, my azaleas are blooming:

And Lillian's dogwood tree is blooming:

It is just a wonderful time of year. Too bad I'm allergic to it!

It's starting to look like Lillian takes after me in my love of Spring! Every day she begs to go outside and walk around. She loves to crawl in the flower beds and play in the dirt, too!

On this day, Lillian was playing in the dirt and just couldn't seem to get close enough to it. She picked it up, squeezed it, smelled it, even tasted it. At one point she leaned over and you could just see the wheels turning in her head, thinking, "I just want to roll in it!!" But she contained herself and stayed upright. What fun to have a child who so loves to be in the dirt. There is so much you can learn about God by playing in the earth!

Ha! That last picture is hilarious! Gee, another way that you and I are nothing alike. You have a green thumb, I have a BLACK thumb! I'm jealous.

Don told me just this week that the term "green thumb" came from Colonial days. The farmers would run their fingernails across the top of tobacco leaves to see if they were ripe or ready to pick. They would get the sap under their nails and it would stain their thumbs green. So that's your trivia lesson for today. :)
