A couple of weeks ago, we were all outside playing when I noticed a bird sitting on a branch in my Azalea. Max and I slowly got closer to look at it and it didn't move. So, I ran inside and grabbed my camera. This bird allowed me to get remarkably close. We soon realized that it couldn't fly! Not sure why. At one point I did pick it up, but decided it was better off outside. I let it go and it hopped away.
But that's not the end of my story. A few days later we saw him again, sitting in my azalea. This time Max and I were both able to touch him before he flew away. We were quite happy to see him healed. Since then we have seen "our" bird many more times. Each time he stays a little farther away. I'm sure we will not be seeing much more of him, since he is a Cedar Waxwing, a migratory bird from the far north. We read that these birds are flocking birds that rely mainly on fruit to survive. That was proved when I walked outside to find about 30 Cedar Waxwings in my Yaupon Holly tree. The next day I noticed all of my berries were gone!!
This was a very interesting bird that I don't recall ever seeing before. A great nature study for the kids. . . . and now for you!

I can't believe you were able to catch that shot! That's so awesome!! Pretty bird.
Ainsley has seen at 3 and Max has seen at 9 what I haven't seen yet, and I'm... oh never mind! I'm so glad you took the time to research this bird and learn his habits. Maybe he'll come back next year!
Beautiful! What a gift.
